A fine pair of 19th century framed Sevres bisque medallion or rondels depicting the French Emperor Charles-Louis Napoleon Bonaparte (or Napoleon III) and his wife, Eugénie du Derje de Montijo.
We believe that these small plaques were issues by sevres to commemorate the royal marriage.
A identical plaque of the Empress Eugenie is held in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. A complete pair of medallions are held by the Met Museum in New York.
Each is mounted in round black frames with gilt brass surrounds. Each is stamped under the bust 'J. PEYRE F NIEUWERKEPKE DIR' and
marked on the reverse with a green Sevres...
