"Don't Cry Long" is a self-portrait of the artist and an unusual one at that in which the artist portrays herself shedding tears. Perhaps it is an expression of some grief experienced by Ms. Woodlock, but it also admonishes her to not "Cry Long" while at the same time poking fun because of her elongated face and the one lone "long" tear tracing a pattern down her face. In addition to self-portraits, Ethelyn painted commissioned portraits. In this painting her head is cocked and her famous bangs hang down her forehead. Compare two self-portraits, “Up From Under”, and “M’Eyes" to "Don't Cry Long." The major differences are the close facial view and the brilliant blood red paint that fills the entire canvas. This painting is included in the book, "Dreams Have Wings: An Artist's Journey into Magic and Mystery" printed in the United States, 1985. She describes "Don't Cry Long" as showing how funny looking we are, if we cry too long. Ethelyn Woodlock...

Artist: Pascual Bueno Ferrer (b. 1930) Title: Pensamiento “Nena” (verso inscription) Date: circa 1975 Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 81 × 65 cm (31.9 × 25.6 in) Signature: Signed lower right Inscription: Titled and dated on reverse Style: Post-Impressionist Figurative Condition: Good overall condition. Stable paint layer and firm canvas. Minor age wear consistent with period. Frame: Unframed Location: Sitges, Spain Category: Paintings Subcategory: Portraits Materials: Oil, Canvas Color Palette: Soft neutrals, warm cream, muted green, earth tones Orientation: Vertical A large mid-century Spanish female portrait executed in oil on canvas, circa 1975. The composition captures a young woman standing by a window, immersed in quiet introspection. Soft, diffused light enters from the left, gently modeling the figure and enhancing the delicate tonal transitions in her face and dress. The restrained palette of warm creams, muted greens and earthy browns creates a serene, romantic atmosphere. The loose, atmospheric brushwork situates the painting within a post-impressionist figurative tradition, emphasizing mood over strict realism. With its generous scale (81 × 65 cm / 31.9 × 25.6 in), the piece offers strong decorative presence while maintaining an intimate emotional tone. An elegant and affordable example of Spanish mid-20th-century figurative painting, ideal for collectors or refined interior settings. Pascual Bueno Ferrer (b. 1930) is a Catalan painter trained at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona. His career includes exhibitions in Spain and abroad, with a body of work centered on portraiture, landscape and still life. His painting combines expressive color with a lyrical, figurative sensibility characteristic of postwar Spanish art.
