"First artistic inspiration by his uncle Gustav Klimt. 1911-16 attended the School of Arts and Crafts under F. Cizek, A. v. Kenner, A. Böhm, A. Roller, O. Strnad, R. v. Larisch and K. Moser. In 1916/17 he taught at the advanced training school for bookbinders and jewellers. In the post-war years he provided designs for the 'Wiener Werkstätte', shortly before his death he was entrusted with its artistic direction as D. Peche's successor. From 1911 he worked on 'personal books', handwritten and decorated with painted or drawn illustrations, followed in 1920-22 by 'Zimpel books', again handwritten and decorated with lithographs."
