Marchande de Lacets is an artwork realized by Louis Malteste in 1897. Lithograph on paper. Signed and dated on plate on the lower right corner. Mint conditions. Passepartout included (cm 50 x 34). Very interesting and elegant artwork representing the portrait of an old woman sitting on a chair with some baskets on the floor. The basket is full of balls of wool and strands. The stroke is very contrasting and the face of the woman is realized with a chiaroscuro that define the volumes. Louis Malteste (Chartre, 1862 – Paris, 1928) was a French illustrator. He lived and worked in Paris, where he exhibited in 1897 at the Salon des Cents and, in 1902 at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. Ed. 1,500 In December of 1894, Mucha visited a print shop contracted to create a new advertising poster for a play featuring Sarah Bernhardt, the most famous actress in Paris at the time. Mucha volunteered to produce a lithographic poster within two weeks, and on January 1, 1895, the advertisement for the play Gismonda by Victorien Sardou was posted in the city, where it attracted much attention. Bernhardt was so satisfied with the success of this first poster that she signed a six-year contract with the artist. Written by Alexandre Dumas (son) when he was 23 years old, and first published in 1848, "La Dame aux Camélias...
