Marcel Giraud Serveware, Ceramics, Silver and Glass

Marcel Giraud was born in 1937 in Vallauris, France. He left school at the age of 13 to become an apprentice potter at the workshop of Blaise Rubino. He later worked at several other workshops in the area until he opened his own studio in 1960, creating mostly utilitarian ware. Since 1975, Giraud has taken up painting, sculpture and continues to create sculptural figures, animals and other decorative objects in his retirement.

Mid-Century Decorative Plate by Marcel Giraud, Ceramic, France, 1960s

By Marcel Giraud

Located in London, GB

A striking mid-century decorative plate by French ceramicist Marcel Giraud, dating from the 1960s. The rim carries a matching hue and an incised, rope-like repeating pattern, adding further visual and tactile interest. The markings and palette are characteristic of Giraud’s hand, making this a fine and representative example of his work. In good overall condition, with ‘Giraud’ incised to the underside. The reverse also includes a ceramic loop...
