Marguerite Wildenhain Signed Pond Farm Midcentury Modern Studio Pottery Art Vase
By Marguerite Wildenhain
Located in Studio City, CA
A truly spectacular work by French-born, American Bauhaus-trained master ceramic artist, educator, and author Marguerite Wildenhain. The shifting textures and color are amazing and the sumptuous blue glaze is something to behold. The shape of the vessel is timeless. Marguerite Wildenhain was born to a British mother and a German father. She lived in Germany during her formative years studying at the Berlin University of the Arts. Wildenhain later attended Bauhaus in Dornburg from 1919 to 1925. During her time at Bauhaus, Wildenhain studied alongside painters Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky and she worked closely with sculptor Gerhard Marcks and potter Max Krehan. In 1925, Wildenhain became the first woman to earn the Master Potter certification in Germany. In 1940 she was forced to flee Europe and moved to New York and then shortly after to California (while her husband Franz Wildenhain...
