A very rare pair of 1970’s brass plated stainless steel Table lamps, designed by Maria Pergay. Born in 1930 in Moldova, Romania to Russian-Jewish parents, Pergay and her mother fled to France at the beginning of World War II. After the war, Pergay studied costumery, set design, and sculpture at the Institut des Hautes Études Cinématographiques in Paris, before opening her own shop to sell decorative silver objects. It wasn’t until the late 1960s that she began using stainless steel. Pergay lives and works in Paris, France. French design stainless steel console "Gerbe" by Maria Pergay, France c. 1970 Edited by Design Steel around 1970, the company that Maria Pergay founded with Marina Varenne in Paris in 1970 and which edited the designers pieces until 1977 when Maria Pergay decided to take over the business alone. The heavy structure of the console is in mirror polished and brushed stainless steel. The use of these two steel textures is typical for Pergay throughout her creations. The half moon shaped top in thick dark grey tinted glass matches perfectly with the impressive stainless steel structure.
