French Louis XVI style ebonized and giltwood occasional table in the manner of Adam Weisweiler, made by Massant. This table d'appoint is typical of his small refined pieces, with fine lines and delicate legs. The beautiful red marble top is framed in bronze, and is supported by graceful tapered legs with sabot feet. Adam Weisweiler, circa 1750-1820 was a preeminent French master cabinet maker during the Louis XVI period, working in Paris. He supplied fine furniture pieces for Marie-Antoinette and the Prince Regent (later George IV) in London. Weisweiler specialized in small, refined pieces with fine lines, delicate legs, light, interlaced stretchers, and gilt bronze, bas relief trays and mounts. Unlike other luxury furniture makers of the Ancient Regime, Weisweiler weathered the Revolution. In 1810 he supplied Queen Hortense and collaborated with Pierre-Philippe Thomire.
