Max-Steven Grossman Art

Colombian, b. 1971

Max Steven Grossman explores in his photography the concept of our modern reality — as well as the objects and places that are tangible and “real” right now but may no longer exist as soon as tomorrow. He is best known for his “Bookscapes” series, which sees large-scale composite images working to visualize the gradual loss of tangible paper books and photographs to a world of virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and the cloud computing and online archives of the digital age.

Born in Barranquilla, Colombia, in 1971, Grossman initially studied engineering at the University of Philadelphia, graduating in 1994. Soon after graduation, he developed a passion for photography and attended New York University and the International Center of Photography, completing his MFA in 2000.

Grossman’s unique approach to his still-life and color photography consists of composing large-scale works based on a compilation of images. For instance, for his “Bookscapes” series, he creates “surface-only libraries” featuring photos of different bookshelves, which he reorganizes around a specific theme. Composite shelves are formed around subjects like fashion, sports, architecture, business, film, and rock and roll, such as his Rock BL4 and Rock BWH.

Grossman’s photographs have been exhibited around the world, including at the Museum of Modern Art in Cartagena, Beatriz Esguerra Art in Bogota, the Museum of Modern Art in Barranquilla, Art Wynwood in Miami and more. He has also shown his works at several international art fairs and foundations in Switzerland, Panama, Hong Kong and Spain.

ABOUT THE ARTIST Internationally recognized photographer, Giuliano Bekor, holds a portfolio that includes work from the realms of fashion, beauty, celebrity, advertising, and fine art. Giuliano’s photography has been featured in top publications around the globe, and his client list includes an endless file of beauty industry leaders, advertising agencies, celebrities, producers, and artists. With 30 years in the industry, Giuliano has perfected his craft to an exceptional level of expertise. Composed of light, color, space and form, Giuliano brings ideas conceptualized in his own imagination into reality throughout his work. Currently living between New York and Los Angeles, Giuliano is often on the move traveling for work and inspiration. Always the restless visionary, he ceases to continually express his fresh and nuanced style. For Giuliano Bekor, a photograph is an image that comes into being consciously, composed of light, color, space and form. Like a painter, he sketches, refining ideas through pen and pencil well before the shutter clicks. A camera is strictly a means to an end, a way of making a palpable visual record of an idea that gestates in his mind, gains shape by his hand, and resolves through his eye as it peers through the lens. His subject is the human body, almost always nude. These images delve into the splendor of the body - how it can express the inner meaning of who we are. Limbs, torsos, muscles and bones are exposed as though carved out of a supple, glowing stone that flexes and twists. Many of these photographs feature subjects posed with the eyes obscured, the face covered. If we look closely, Bekor says, we can see that the body is as much a window into the soul as the eyes. This is a gallery of the soul etched into the forms we assume in the physical world. Through exaggerated contrast between light and dark, smooth and textured, vaporous and tactile, Giuliano deliberately filters the extraneous. The camera captures the image, but for Bekor each exposure is a transformation - of himself, his subjects, and us. He is digging into uneasy turf, fraught with tension: masculine/feminine, heroic/cowardly, shameless/shameful, eternal/fleeting. The intensity of detail, the fiercely exquisite perfection of the bodies themselves, the unflinching, scrupulous engagement of the lens, negates all pretense of politeness. Confronted, we are summoned to look. So we must. And we do. And we experience the beautiful human forms we inhabit and the silent, eloquent language they speak. The Castelloland Installation. From the Castelloland series

By Paloma Castello

Located in Miami Beach, FL

Castelloland works with objects whose uniqueness is fundamental to the narrative of each story, as each image reacts and develops through the interaction between the word and the object. This series is composed of more than 30 photographs and the stories that connect them, which oscillate between fiction and reality. The artistic work of Paloma Castello, giving life or a different narrative to the past of an object. She is interested in playing with memory and relating it to the present, creating an atmosphere between reality and fiction. Castellos' family and social origins have a powerful influence on her work. She grew up surrounded by objects and anecdotes inherited from her ancestors that inspire endless surreal stories. Her work arises from these experiences; They are evidence of her “autofiction.” Paloma Castello presents us with a work full of nostalgia. Her artistic work represents the soul of her proposal: inherited objects discovered or found that have become the tip of the iceberg of her past. They are elements that she collects, remembers and then classifies following a method that frames her anachronistic attitude that shows the youth of her art. It also shows that experimentation on herself is common for an artist just starting her career. Without a doubt, this resource, valid and true, becomes the path that determines the author's experimental character. From the series Castelolland 34 Castelloland digital photographs...
