Peter Hunt Furniture

South African

Peter Hunt was an American folk art artist, born in 1896, in East Orange, New Jersey. He gained recognition for his art in the 1940s and 1950s, when his decorated and refinished furniture was featured in magazines such as Life, House Beautiful and Mademoiselle. He would take antique pieces of furniture and paint them in his great style. He painted furniture, household items and fabrics, decorating them with colorful peasant designs, reminiscent of Pennsylvania German and French Provincial folk art.
