About the Item

Circa late 1800s, wood, and glass, American, possibly New York. Charming beyond belief, this polychrome Folk Art House was originally made to feature a mirror for grooming and tray for brushes, combs, razor, etc. It could have hung on a wall or sat on a dresser or side table. A unique accessory for any décor, the only ones like this I have ever seen are the 4 we currently have to offer. Good condition. By Charles Hart, Gloucester, Massachusetts, circa 1930s. Charles Hart (1862-1960), working in Gloucester, Massachusetts, was known as a carver of fine duck decoys. Hart also had a passion for penguins which he carved in different sizes. This one is a larger example of his penguins, very similar to the pairs flanking the entrance to his house. It is complete with an original wood base.
