This fine antique George V sterling silver sugar caster has a plain paneled baluster shaped form onto a spreading domed foot. The surface of the caster is plain and encompassed with applied moulded borders. This sterling silver caster retains the original hallmarked push fit cover, embellished with pierced scrolling decoration in addition to an applied moulded border to the rim. The cover is surmounted by an impressive sterling silver paneled baluster shaped finial. This exceptional antique George VI sterling silver medallion has a circular shaped form. The anterior surface of this hallmarked antique medallion is embellished with the applied Newcastle Upon Tyne coat of arms and motto 'Fortiter defendit triumphans' - Triumphing by a brave defence, all accented with enamel details. The reverse surface bears the contemporary engraved inscription 'Alderman Gilbert Oliver J.P. Lord Mayor of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 1937-1938'. The coat of arms is encircled with an enamel band depicting the wording 'The City and County of Newcastle Upon Tyne' accented with applied quadrilateral motifs. This exceptional antique piece is surmounted with a castellated coronet between a crossed sword and sceptre, symbolizing state, strength and sovereignty. The medallion secures to the original navy collar ribbon with a hallmarked 14-karat yellow gold ring loop / bail. The medallion is fitted to the original hinged leatherette presentation box with satin and velvet lined interior, securing with a push fit catch. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver and glass communion set made by Reid & Sons; an addition to our diverse religious silverware collection. This exceptional antique George V sterling silver communion set consists of a chalice, paten, spoon, pyx and two wine phials/bottles. The surface of each piece is plain and unembellished. The chalice has a circular rounded form onto a knopped pedestal and hexafoil shaped spreading foot. The interior of the chalice retains the original gilding. The paten has a plain circular form with a central circular well. The impressive pyx (wafer container) retains the original hallmarked push fit cover and gilded interior; this box accommodates two communion wafers. The original sterling silver spoon is ornamented with a ball terminal surmounted with a cross pattee* design in addition to the original gilded bowl. Each bottle is fitted with the original push fit stopper surmounted with a hallmarked cross design matching that to the spoon. The communion set is fitted to the original hinged leatherette box with velvet and satin interior, which secures with a push fit catch. The box is embellished with the original applied silver rectangular cartouche displaying the contemporary engraved inscription: 'Presented to, The Revd N.A.Walton, L.T.H, Curate of the Parish of S Augustin, Alston, Decbr 1912 to July 1915, by Parishoners and the Choir as a token of esteem. 19th Octbr 1915.' The interior of the box bears the retailer's mark 'Reid & Sons, Goldsmiths & Jewellerys, to the Queen & Prince of Wales, Newcastle Upon Tyne' The chalice, paten and pyx were crafted by the collectable and renowned silversmiths Reid & Sons in 1911. The cross bearing components, the communion spoon and bottle stoppers, were crafted in the same year by the Ecclesiastical silver specialist Frederick Dendy Wray; this was often the case to ensure the high quality of such a presentation set.
