Robert Henri, the inspirational leader of The Eight, was to become one of the most influential teachers and artists in the history of American art. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia with Thomas Anshutz, James B. Kelly, Thomas Hovenden, 1886 to 1888, and with Robert Vonnah, 1891; Academie Julian, Paris, with William Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury, 1888 to 1891; Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris; Spain and Italy.
