Robyn Denny Furniture

1930-2014

Denny was born in Abinger, Surrey in 1930. He studied at the Royal College of Art in the mid-1950s, where he was inspired by Abstract Expressionism, American film, popular culture and urban modernity. He recognised abstract painting as the medium most suited to his message and his time, and emerged as a force to be reckoned with within abstract art in the 1950s-1970s. Denny’s first major career break-through occurred when he was commissioned to complete the public art project Austin Reed mural in Regent Street. From 1950-1954 Denny studied at St Martin’s School of Art in London, after which he attended the Royal College of Art in 1957, going on to win a scholarship to study in Italy. His first solo exhibition took place at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, 1959. Denny went on to exhibit at the RBA Galleries in 1960, and at the Walker Art Gallery exhibition titled London: The New Scene at Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, which went on to complete a North American Tour in 1965. Denny was the subject of a Tate Gallery retrospective in 1973, and exhibited at the Barbican Art Gallery’s The Sixties Art Scene in London in 1993. Denny is collected world wide, including at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh; The British Council, UK; The Veranneman Foundation, Kruishoutem; the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; the Walker Art Gallery, UK; the Tate Gallery, London; the Daimler Chrysler Collection, Berlin; the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Peter Stuyvesant Collection, Amsterdam.

Peter Buchman "No Portrait, No Landscape", Voice-Over Paintings Series, 2018

By Peter Buchman

Located in New York, NY

Contemporary New York artist Peter Buchman's "No Portrait, No Landscape" white painting is made of laser cut plexiglass, acrylic medium and enamel on wood. It's a part of his Voice over Series, one that poetically mocks knowledge and itself in an endless bantering list style. To explain that Buchman’s word paintings are ‘A Figure Of Speech’ is underestimating the level of soulfulness at which these works reside. They are markings directly from the artist’s hand yet are indications of many people before him. These are words from familiar phrases, music albums, his funny brand of irony and the human form itself. Signed and dated en verso. This will ship directly from the one of the artist's studios. American artist Peter Buchman has BFA in Illustration from The Rhode Island School of Design and did a Sculpture Residency at The School of Visual Arts in New York. Peter's artwork has been exhibited throughout the US since 1981 including the Parrish Art Museum (Southampton, NY), Cooperstown Museum (NY), Delaware Museum of Art, Kidder Smith Gallery (MA) and Vered Gallery (East Hampton, NY). His work is included in the portfolios of collectors including Beth Rudin DeWoody, Nicole Miller, David Yurman and Howard Schultz...

Fred Wilson: Untitled: Antilles Limited Edition Print

By Phaidon

Located in New York, NY

Print Pigment inkjet on HotPress Natural, 300 gsm Measures: 20.00 x 25.00 in 50.8 x 63.5 cm Edition of 108 Signed and numbered by the artist. This work is part of the Vera List Anniversary Print Portfolio, created in recognition of the exceptional legacy of philanthropist Vera List. It was the generosity of Vera and her husband Albert that enabled the founding of the Vera List Art Project at Lincoln Center in 1962, MIT's List Arts Center in 1982, and the Vera List Center for Art and Politics at The New School in 1992, among others. These institutions joined forces with Artspace and six internationally renowned artists to produce this print portfolio. This print by Fred Wilson is comprised of a mashup of flags of Caribbean nations, presenting an idea about the relationships among the people of these cultures. Fred Wilson is a conceptual artist of African-American and Caribbean descent who's primarily known for rearranging art and artifacts in museum collections to reveal the inherent racism and gender politics that are often overlooked. First gaining notoriety in the early '90s with the exhibition Mining the Museum, in which he placed a whipping post from pre-Civil War America in a gallery and surrounded it with four ornate chairs...
