Ruth Kerkovius Art
Ruth Kerkovius was born in Latvia in 1921. She received her early training in Munich, Germany, working in theater costume history and design, and in painting before she came to America. In 1949, Kerkovius became an American citizen. Once in New York, she studied at the Art Students League, the School of Visual Arts, the Pratt Graphic Art Center under Frasconi, and then continued at Pratt on a fellowship to work under Michael Ponce de Leon. Kerkovius participated in the major juried print shows from 1962 onward, including the Society of American Graphic Artists, the Silverman Guild of Artists, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Library of Congress. In 1964, she had several one-man exhibitions throughout the United States. Kerkovius passed away in 2007.
