French Genuine Tolix Steel Stacking Kitchen Counter Stools More Colors Available

Tolix steel stacking stools and stacking chairs were designed by Xavier Pauchard, who was a trained roofer in France. By 1907 Xavier, later known as Mr. X had perfected a way of protecting sheet metal from rusting. In 1927 Mr. X had set up a factory selling steel products for the household. The actual Tolix stools and chairs were not designed until the 1930’s. In 1956 Mr. X finally developed the first fully stackable Tolix chairs, soon followed by the Tolix stacking stools. The ability to be able to stack (12) or more steel chairs, the Tolix chairs and stools became an instant success. We stock the steel Tolix...

Beachcomber Counter Stool in Walnut
By Greg Mitchell
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Light and strong, the Beachcomber Counter Stool evokes the sight of an old wooden single hull; it's lean, sturdy mast together with the rigging worthy of the high seas. Constructed of hand shaped legs and stretchers, each piece is carefully fit and pinned with hardwood pegs and wedges to last for generations, much like the sea craft that inspire them.
For every bar stool, we start with scrupulously chosen lumber; each board must consist of straight grain and have absolutely no defects. This is not just for aesthetics, the clear grain gives the stool its strength. The boards are then milled to dimension and shaped by hand using a combination of machines and time honored hand tools. They are then given a polish by taking thin shavings with well sharpened planes and spokeshaves; rarely is sandpaper used in our shop. Once assembled, the Beachcomber bar stool...

Mid-Century Modern, Arm Chair in Wood and Patinated Cognac Leather, 1950
By Anna-Lülja Praun, Josef Frank
Located in Hausmannstätten, AT
A spindle back armchair designed by Anna-Luelja Praun (1906-2004), Vienna, Austria, manufactured in midcentury, circa 1952.
It is made of a warm toned solid wood frame with two loose leather cushions for the seat and the back. The cognac colored leather has a beautiful patina. The chair is in great condition with little wear on the cushions.
About Anna-Lülja Praun:
Anna-Lülja Praun was born in Sankt Petersburg, Russia, in 6/29/1906 and lived in Vienna until 9/28/2004. She was an important Austrian designer and architect and she was one of the first females who studied architecture in Austria.
In 1947 she worked on the restoration of the palace Belvedere which was heavily damaged in the second world war. In 1952 she opened her own studio in Vienna. She designed houses, interiors, furniture, shops, light fixtures, and pottery (together with Gudrun Baudisch).
From 1953-1959 she also worked for the furniture shop „Haus und Garten“ which was established by Josef Frank in 1925.
In 1959 she designed a bench „Bank zum Ausruhen“ for the conductor Herbert von Karajan.
