A beautiful and unique hand thrown stoneware vase, with amazing glaze. Made by Toini Muona at Arabia, Finland, 1960s. Excellent condition. Incised signature "TM". Toini Muona (1904-1987) was one of the most respected art ceramists and trendsetters in Finnish ceramic art and art industry in the 1930s–1950s. Her artworks represent clean modern reduced forms and motives taken from finnish nature. Toini Muona studied sketch drawing at the Central School of Fine Arts from 1923 to 1926 and postgraduate ceramics from 1926 to 1923. In the meantime, she worked as a textile designer at Atelier Vigli from 1929 to 1931, then moved to the Arabian Art Department, where she worked until 1970. In the same year, he received the Finnish National Award for Industrial Arts. Toini Muona was a skilled wheel-thrower who, especially early in her career, created vases, jars, and objets d'art influenced by old Chinese ceramics. Exceptional French ceramic table lamp, circa 1950s, featuring a rare and beautifully sculpted organic form in deep black glazed ceramic. The highly sensual silhouette, articulated by sweeping curves and elegantly pierced openings, reflects the poetic vocabulary of post-war French organic modernism. Its sculptural language is evocative of the work of George Jouve and Pol Chambost, while the piece retains a distinctive and singular character of its own. The surface is particularly remarkable: a sublime, exceptionally deep black glaze with a rich, almost lacquer-like luminosity that follows and accentuates every curve of the form. The combination of the sculptural volume, restrained geometry and extraordinary glaze gives the lamp a powerful yet sophisticated presence. The electrical system has been completely renewed.
