Mid Century Holmegaard Glass Decanter By Michael Bang Rare Crown Stopper Denmark

By Holmgaard, Jacob Bang

Located in North Miami, FL

This vintage smokey gray gradient blown glass cinched decanter bottle was designed by Michael Bang for Holmegaard. It is called the Kluk Kluk. He was a major designer for the company. This is from the 1960s. What is most unusual about this is the rare crown stopper that was only made for the Danish markets. This was brought back from Denmark by a collector. For the upper class homes, this was used at the time for liquors and serving special schnapps. Great barware. The small gray gradient bowl seen in the photos must be purchased separately and was only used in this instance for a mini photo still life...

No, Whitefriars Glass hasn’t been produced since 1980, when the company ceased operations after roughly three centuries in business. Today, Whitefriars glassware is still world-renowned for its quality and craftsmanship. On 1stDibs, you’ll find a collection of vintage Whitefriars glass from some of the world’s top sellers.
  • 1stDibs ExpertOctober 15, 2024
To tell genuine Whitefriars glass, start by learning about the characteristics of the specific type of glass you may have. Whitefriars pieces often are unmarked, so you'll need to research the defining features of the maker's glassware using trusted online resources to know what to look for. For example, on Whitefriars Onion glass, you can usually expect to see a rippled base with a polished pontil. A piece that was supposedly Onion glass but had a smooth base with a textured pontil would likely be a knockoff. Another way to authenticate your glassware is to use the services of a certified appraiser or experienced antique dealer. Explore a variety of Whitefriars glass on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertAugust 26, 2024
To tell if Whitefriars glass is real or fake, start with color. Whitefriars was known for producing distinctive, vivid hues, so if, when comparing your glassware to images shared by trusted online resources, you notice that the color is off, your piece is more likely to be a replica. Also, familiarize yourself with the characteristics of the style of glassware and see if your piece has signs of authenticity. For example, Onion vases typically have rippled bases with polished pontils. Knockoffs often show the reverse: an elevated, textured pontil with a smooth surrounding base. If you need help with the authentication process, a certified appraiser or knowledgeable antique dealer can assist you. On 1stDibs, shop a selection of Whitefriars glass.
