An exceptional, fine and impressive, unusual antique Edwardian English sterling silver and cricket ball inkwell; an addition to our diverse ornamental silverware collection This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver inkstand has a plain rectangular shaped form. The surface of this impressive Birmingham silver inkstand is plain and fitted to either end with a pen rest/stand, realistically modelled in the form of baluster shaped cricket bails. The upper plateau features a protruding shaped plateau to the posterior surface, supporting an impressive and unusual cricket ball inkwell. The inkwell retains the original red leather cricket ball* covering, incorporating all the details of the stitching. This antique inkwell is fitted with a hallmarked domed hinged cover with incurved shaped thumbpiece to the anterior edge. The cover opens to reveal the removable glass ink liner. The cricket ball inkwell sits adjacent to an applied presentation plaque, ornamented with the engraved inscription 'A. H. Green, from H. C. Holden, 10 wickets, Highbury v Moorgreen, 8th June 1907'; this engraving could be professionally erased upon request. The chamfered rim of the stand is embellished with an applied floral and reed decorated border. This antique inkwell is supported by four bun style feet. * Red leather was the traditional covering of this period.
