These two (2) ornately crafted red walnut armchairs with carved exotic details are a testament to William Westenhaver's Modern Primitive creations. Westenhaver joined forces with Western International Trading Company in 1957 to bring his vision of Polynesian inspired furniture to life. Witco successfully brought the "tiki-fever" found in bars and restaurants of the era, directly into the American home. The red walnut frames are embellished with carved scrolls, markings and flourishes, as was evident in the Pop Primitivism movement. These sturdy lounge chairs are upholstered in gold crushed velvet, an Apt fabric choice for these regal looking chairs. Being a fan of the movement, Elvis Presley created a "Jungle Room", dressed entirely in Witco furnishings at his Graceland Estate. If you're assembling your own "Jungle Room", enticed by the tropical trend in decor right now, or curating a design scheme that incorporates some whimsey these pieces would aptly achieve those notions. Measurements: 34.75" H x 33.5" W x 40.5" D Seat height: 17" Very good vintage condition. As expected, minor signs of use commensurate with its age are evident.
