Antique Thorens Excelda portable gramophone, manufactured in Switzerland in the 1930s. Presented in a red enamelled metal case, this elegant travel gramophone features a removable tone arm, sound reproducer, and winding handle, all of which can be stored inside the case itself. It is simple and quick to assemble. The mechanism has been cleaned and lubricated. Dimensions: 4,72 in / 12 cm wide × 11,02 in / 28 cm long × 1,97 in / 5 cm high. The Excelda model was introduced to the market in early 1931 and remained in production until the mid-1940s. The gramophone’s components — the tone arm, winding handle, and sound reproducer — are stored inside the case itself and can be easily assembled when the piece is ready to be used. The model shown in the photographs features a red crackle-finish exterior, although Excelda gramophones were also produced in brown, black, green, and blue finishes.
