Italian, late 19th century. An impressive and unique Neoclassical armchair, likely produced during the Grand Tour period in Italy. Featuring an impressive swirled top rail, scalloped butterfly effect to the upper splat adorned with paint painted and inlaid exotic foliage. The main back supports a finely detailed Grecian warrior against an ebony background. Sturdy walnut arms are supported by hand carved, gilded and ebonized figural lady sphinxes. A detachable seat with contemporary upholstery. Areas of black banding to accent the legs and feet.
