A prime example of Rizzo’s glamorous take on 1970s Italian furniture, this piece combines geometric minimalism with luxurious materials and meticulously crafted details. Description The sideboard features a long, low-profile rectangular design finished entirely in glossy black lacquer. Its imposing yet understated geometry is emphasized by polished chrome vertical profiles positioned at both outer edges of the facade. The front is divided into three sections, each consisting of an upper drawer and a lower cabinet door. The six elements are visually integrated into an almost uninterrupted black surface, preserving the cabinet's monolithic appearance when closed. At the center of each section is a distinctive circular chrome-plated handle, designed to serve both as a practical opening mechanism and as a decorative element. Their sculptural ring shape creates a strong graphic rhythm across the otherwise minimalist façade. When opened, the sideboard reveals three drawers located above three spacious storage compartments. The center drawer lights up when opened. The contrast between the highly reflective metal details and the glossy black lacquer gives the piece the sophisticated, glamorous character associated with Willy Rizzo’s furniture designs from that period. Design & Aesthetics The Alveo sideboard is designed around a deliberate tension between pure geometry and decorative luxury. Its elongated horizontal body has an almost architectural quality, while the circular handles break up the austere rectangular composition with a recurring geometric accent. The polished chrome elements framing the sides reinforce the silhouette and visually define the front elevation. The use of black lacquer creates depth and reflection, causing the cabinet's appearance to change subtly depending on the surrounding light. The result has a distinctly 1970s feel: dramatic yet restrained, luxurious without excessive ornamentation, and particularly well-suited to sophisticated contemporary interiors as well as those dedicated to collectible Italian design. Materials & Aesthetic The cabinet is finished in high-gloss black lacquer, whose reflective surface accentuates the piece's substantial proportions and clean lines. Polished chrome-plated metal is used for the circular handles and the vertical decorative trim along the front edges. These bright metallic details create a striking contrast with the black lacquer and give the sideboard its distinctive jewel-like appearance. The combination of glossy lacquer, mirrored metal, and bold geometric forms is closely associated with the luxurious aesthetic of Italian interiors in the 1970s.
