Classically modernist, the charm of this low bench lies in its construction. The top is comprised of cane which is tightly woven around the teak frame. The cane-work pattern is looser in areas, then contracts in order to create a striped pattern in these denser parts.
The base of the bench is fully teak, and formed from a simple cross and bar construction which holds the cane clad frame. The gently tapered profile of the cross frame imbues the piece with a quiet grandeur and historicism almost evocative of Egyptian Revival...
