An incredible set of six French Provincial dining chairs in dark-stained oak. Dating to the early 20th century, the set represents a regional tradition of chair making that drew on both Louis XV forms and the vernacular joinery of provincial workshops. The back uprights are square-sectioned and unornamented, lending the design a verticality that balances the decorative upper register. The front legs are cabriole in form with carved knees and scroll feet, while the rear legs taper in the square Provincial manner. The seat rail is shaped with a simple scallop to the front. The generously sized, upholstered drop-in seats have been covered in a contemporary asymmetric geometric fabric by Christopher Farr Cloth...
