An art deco cufflinks designed by Wedderien. An exceptional pair of Art Deco cufflinks created in the United States by the jewelry firm Wedderien, circa 1925. This striking pair has been masterfully crafted in solid 18 karat yellow gold with an elegant geometric design characteristic of the Art Deco period. The surfaces are enhanced with finely applied white enamel, creating a sophisticated contrast with the rich yellow gold. Each cufflink is mounted with hand-carved lapis lazuli cilynders, adding a bold touch of color and highlighting the exceptional craftsmanship of the period. They are fitted with movable hook backs for secure and comfortable wear. Beautifully preserved, these cufflinks represent the refined elegance and geometric aesthetics of American Art Deco jewelry. Their rarity, outstanding craftsmanship, and vibrant combination of gold, enamel, and lapis lazuli make them an exceptional addition to any distinguished collection of period jewelry. Weight: 10.2 Grams, (6.55 Dwt). Measurements: 21 mm by 28 mm by 7mm (0.83 x 1.10 x 0.28 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark and signed as follows, "WEDDERIEN". Wedderien & Co. The company was established in 1921 by Albert Wedderien, Edie Chase, R. Hellstern and Minnie Cosgrow of the renown Dreicer & Co. because the sudden death of the founder, shortly after his son’s death. The business, unfortunately, was forced to close. The latter, founded in 1910, was a world-class jeweler, rivalling great houses such as Cartier. However, this four ex employees, decided to re-organize and establish Wedderien. As those four included an experienced watchmaker, gem buyer, jeweler and pearl stringer, they covered all the necessary bases to continue manufacturing fine jewels. The showroom was located at Madison Avenue and Fifty Second Street in New York City. They catered to exclusive clientele as Dreicer & Co. was on par with Cartier at the time.
