About the Item
This spectacular Victorian black silk opera coat has hand-knotted fringes on the sleeves. The collar can be worn down, high and even as a hood. On the back center of the neckline, they are soft gathering and there are two darts, one on each back shoulders. The elaborate hand-embroidery are hand-done with gold threading along with gray cotton roping. The coat is fully lined in a taupe-ish shade of silk. The hand-knotted silk fringes measures 14 1/2 inches total including the knotting. The knotting measures 4 1/4 inches. Total length is 45 1/2 inches. The shawl collar measures 12 3/4 inches in height. The center back gathering on the back neck is 7 1/2 inches; across and 1 inch in height. The darts on the back shoulders are 3 3/4 inches. The collar seam to the top of embroidery seam is 16 inches, embroidery seam to fringe is 8 1/2 inches. fringe is 14 1/2 inches. The sleeves are 24 1/2 inches from shoulder-to-hem. Back underarm-to-underarm across is 28 inches. The two fronts measures 19 1/2 inches in length. The bottom of embroidery-to-the coat hem is 20 1/4 inches.
