This charming, hand painted, Italian Majolica urn is actually the body of a water fountain/vessel. The water comes out of the yellow mascaron’s mouth which is at the base of the urn. It would have had a bronze spigot of some sort. Depending upon where is was situated, it would have had a basin to drain into. It dates to 1720 and depicts a family tending to their animals in a field.
