This table is made from petrified palm wood and solid bronze. The surface of the top is polished to reveal the intricate details and the bronze base plate is carefully cut to match the outline of the fossilized wood. I work with a metal artist to create each design by hand and each piece I create is completely unique with its own fossil top. Petrified palm wood can be found in the southern states on the Gulf of Mexico, where palm trees grew millions of years ago along the coast. Some trees were submerged and fossilized to form excellent petrified specimens. These pieces were obtained from the Catahoula Formation. The bronze base is made by a skilled metal artist who shapes the bronze using only hand tools. At Shizen Studio, every consideration is made to respect the earth and her inhabitants.
