About the Item

An extraordinary 19th-century Middle Eastern domed casket, hand-carved from a single block of richly grained teak wood and mounted with pierced and hand-hammered brass hardware. This finely crafted box features a gently arched lid, solid brass strapwork, and an intricately shaped escutcheon surrounding the original working lock (key not included). The warm tone of the teak is enhanced by its polished surface, contrasting beautifully with the patinated brass mounts, hinges, and handle. All are fastened with dome-head rivets, a traditional method. The interior, hollowed from the same single piece of wood, speaks to the high level of craftsmanship typical of the region. This piece would have originally served as a valuables or document box, possibly used for personal or ceremonial storage.
