Erotical 19th Century Sculpture Box Of Woman Sitting On A Carved Basket In Wood

Erotical 19th Century Sculpture Box Of Woman Sitting On A Carved Basket In Wood

Located in Miami, FL

A 19th century erotical secret box. Extremely rare erotic sculpture from the 19th century, most probably created in France, circa 1870. This is a sculptural box depicting a woman sitting on a woven wood basket. The sculpture represents a small discrete treasure chest to keep jewels. It was masterfully crafted from pieces of cream and brown wood carvings and is fitted with a screwable part to reveal the interior. This is an outstanding object, unobtainable on the antique market and of high collecting. Other examples of these enigmatic boxes produced in the 19th Century. Gilded and patinated bronze, made in France during the 3rd Empire. Ca 1870 Weight: 192.2 Grams, (123.20 Dwt). Measurements: 150 mm by 63.5 mm by 89 mm (5.91 x 2.5 x 3.5 Inches). Condition: The overall condition of this sculpture is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to any part. This erotic box...

Grand French Three-Piece Desk Set, Hand Painted Porcelain Inset, circa 1860

Located in Bath, GB

Wonderful to find a top-notch, highly decorative and most unusual desk set, French in origin dating to around 1860. Made from nutty coloured burl Walnut, all three pieces are mounted with the most wonderful polished brass mounts all inset with fabulous hand painted porcelain plaques. Our restorer had to remove all the mounts to professionally clean and on doing so found the name of the figure depicted on the plaques, "Ninon De Lenclos" a French Author, Courtesan, Freethinker and Patron of the Arts. The set is made up of a Stationery box with brass swing handles each side; the box complete with a working tasselled key. The box opens to reveal the wonderful original gilded leather lining with the original paper lining the sides of the dividers. The lock and hinges are beautifully engraved, a true sign of quality. The next piece is a hefty large oval Walnut Inkstand with a large glass inkwell...

A Rare 1924 'King Fouad I' Box by René Lalique

A Rare 1924 'King Fouad I' Box by René Lalique

By René Lalique

Located in Long Island City, NY, NY

From Paris to Cairo: René Lalique’s ‘Fouad I’ Box and Its Royal Legacy A rare and historically significant creation by the preeminent French glass artist René Lalique, this exquisite box and cover, designed in 1924, exemplifies the fusion of artistic mastery and regal symbolism. Fashioned in clear and frosted glass, the piece is adorned with a finely moulded relief of winged solar discs, a motif evocative of ancient Egyptian iconography and celestial divinity. The subtle sepia staining enhances the intricate detailing, imbuing the composition with depth and an ethereal luminosity. The frosted lid bears a distinguished engraving of King Fouad I of Egypt, his state portrait rendered with remarkable precision, underscoring both his sovereign authority and the modern aspirations of his reign. A dedication inscribed on the base—"Offert par Fakhry Pacha à Paris le 9 Octobre 1924"—further contextualizes the piece within the realm of diplomatic and ceremonial gifting, situating it as a testament to cross-cultural exchange and early 20th-century Franco-Egyptian relations. Signed ‘R. LALIQUE’ to the lid, this refined objet d’art reflects Lalique’s unparalleled ability to harmonize material innovation with historical reverence. This box stands as an exceptional example of early 20th-century glasswork, where the aesthetic ideals of Art Deco converge with the grandeur of Egyptian heritage. Now regarded as one of the finest expressions of Lalique’s oeuvre, this box not only embodies the technical virtuosity of its maker but also serves as an enduring artifact of royal patronage and artistic diplomacy. Provenance Lot 39, Lalique, Christie's, 12 May 1998 Private collection Bequeathed to the present owner in 2020 Private Collection, UK Solomon Treasure...
