About the Item

Red Griotte mantel (fireplace) clock decorated with a patinated bronze group, Les bergers d'Arcadie (Shepherds of Arcadia) by Eugene-Antoine Aizelin (1821-1902), featuring a maiden and a shepherd mourning at a tomb. The woman is wearing a flowing tunic and her head is downcast. The shepherd is wearing a woven hat and is holding a shepherd's staff that is resting on a stone bearing an inscription in Greek. The tombstone has a partial inscription, also in Greek. Signed and dated: Ene. AIZELIN 1867. Barbedienne and A. Collas marks, circa 1867 Dimension: W 16.9 in, D 8.3in, H 26in.
