An antique carved wood chofa from Thailand, presented on custom base. This elegant Thai finial, from the late 19th century, is referred to as a "chofa", which roughly translates to "sky tassel." These pieces were often used as spires to architecturally adorn the roof of a temple or palace, thought to bring good luck and ward off evil spirits. These temple spires with their beautifully fluid shapes, are often interpreted to represent the mythical creatures Garuda (a half man, half bird of Vishnu) or perhaps Hamsa (a celestial swan of Brahma).
