This large, verdant raw fibrous malachite specimen from the DRC features a dazzlingly sparkling, almost velvety luster. Named for the banded or fibrous way within which this species of the copper carbonate mineral forms, fibrous malachite often displays intricate patterns and textures which are as visually impactful as they are different from the bullseye pattern often associated with polished malachite. Malachite was historically used as a pigment for painting and was a popular stone in ancient Egypt.
