This is a very good and complete handmade, hardwood chess set game of 32 pieces in a handmade pine box with a sliding lid, which we date to the turn of the 19th Century, Circa 1900. The chess set is complete with 32 handmade and turned hardwood pieces, ( probably made of boxwood) all in the Regency shape or French Regence style. This Regence style are quite distinctive with the taller knights and pawns compared to other designs and have a good "feel" when playing with. The box is handmade of pine with a sliding lid of good colour and could have been made slightly earlier than the Chess pieces. Kings are 78mm high (about 3~1/16inches) Pawns are 38 mm high (about 1.5 inches) Overall a very good handmade antique chess set.
