Poul Henningsen PH5 Mini Pendant in Monochrome Black for Louis Poulsen
By Poul Henningsen, Louis Poulsen
Located in Tilburg, NL
Poul Henningsen PH5 mini pendant for Louis Poulsen. Designed 1958, Mini in 2017. New, current production. Poul Henningsen developed the PH 5 in 1958 in response to constant changes made to the shape and size of incandescent bulbs by bulb manufacturers, naming it after the size of the pendant’s main shade, which is 50 cm in diameter. When the lamp was introduced, he wrote, typically daringly, about how he had lost faith that the manufacturers of incandescent light bulbs would ever learn to consider common sense or have the consumer’s best interest at heart: “I have accepted fate, and with Louis Poulsen´s permission I have designed a PH fixture, which can be used with any kind of light source, Christmas lights and 100 W metal filament bulbs. Although a fluorescent tube would be too much to ask in the existing form!” At the time, now one knew that the PH 5 would become synonymous with the PH light...

Louis Poulsen PH Artichoke 840 Pendant Light by Poul Henningsen
By Louis Poulsen, Poul Henningsen

He never graduated as an architect, but studied at The Technical School at Frederiksberg, Denmark from 1911-1914, and then at Technical College in Copenhagen from 1914-1917. He started practicing traditional functionalistic architecture, but over the years his professional interests changed to focus mainly on lighting which is what he is most famous for. The fixture provides 100% glare-free light. The 72 precisely positioned leaves form 12 unique rows of six leaves each. They illuminate the fixture as well as emitting diffused light with a unique pattern. The fixture provides decorative and comfortable lighting. For the energy saving LED variant the quality of light and atmosphere surrounding the product is kept at the highest level. Materials: Punched brass, punched copper, laser cut stainless steel or punched steel. White, spun steel. High luster chrome-plated, laser cut steel. High lustre chrome-plated, spun aluminum...
