This is a wooden statue of **Jūichimen Senju Kannon Bosatsu (Eleven-Headed Thousand-Armed Kannon)**, created in Japan during the late Edo period. Senju Kannon (Thousand-Armed Kannon), formally known as *Senju Sengen Kanzeon Bosatsu*, is regarded as a symbol of compassion who saves all people through countless hands and eyes. Rather than literally carving one thousand arms, the expression of many arms symbolically represents “infinite salvation.” This work is further rendered in the **Eleven-Headed (Jūichimen)** form, bearing multiple faces above the main head. This signifies the ability to look in all directions and to never overlook the suffering of any being. The Eleven-Headed Thousand-Armed Kannon is both refined in design and highly significant in devotional practice. At **Sanjūsangendō (Rengeō-in)** in Kyoto, a similar Eleven-Headed Thousand-Armed Kannon statue is enshrined and is widely known as one of the representative masterpieces of Japanese Buddhist sculpture...

Exceptional, rare and completely restored wooden Sado ishô dansu (cabinet of drawers) with elaborately decorated open work iron hardware, in two sections. Fully restored, cleaned and waxed. The exterior is made of hinoki cypress wood. Only slightly varnished, giving it a tad warmer colour. This soft underground lets the refined hardware stand out even more. The upper part consists of two large drawers. The lower part with two drawers of different size and a hinged door. The interior behind the door with three small drawers. All the drawers are very deep and have a lot of volume, for easy storage. They run very smoothly as well. The cabinet has extensively decorated hardware. The corner pieces of the drawers with stylized pine trees. This piece reeks of adventure. Visualize a seated Hemmingway cupping his Daiquiri and recalling his war correspondent days during the Spanish Civil War. Crafted of solid sabino wood, original and patinated by life like Hemmingway, this is a "Butaque" chair by the American-born designer William Spratling. And it was produced in his workshops in Taxco, Mexico, primarily in the 1940s and 1950s. While Spratling is widely known as the "Father of Mexican Silver" for reviving the town's silver industry, he also designed furniture. These chairs were handmade from local Mexican sabino wood...

Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928), made by Guthrie and Wells. A Glasgow School Arts and Crafts stained green cypress wood wardrobe, with white opaque textured square glass details to the top. The central door and a large lower drawer with brass heart escutcheons and brass stylized foliate hinges and handles. The simple case construction and stained green cypress wood and grouping of square details are typical of Mackintosh's early work for Guthrie and Wells including items bought by William Davidson for his house Gladsmuir, Kilmacolm. The brass cabinet fittings are identical on a number of pieces, see Billcliffe, p. 33, fig. 1895.2 and 1895.3 for a washstand and dressing table designed by Mackintosh, also made by Guthrie and Wells.
