Margit Wittig has used her sculptural skills to create beautifully-crafted, well-proportioned candlesticks, which are compositions of her unique signature pearl-shaped designs. Each candlestick begins as hand-sculpted spheres and cuboids which are used to create moulds in different sizes. These highly original, eye-catching candlesticks come in low and tall sizes depending on the number of blocks. The candlesticks are cast in bio-resin with 30% recycled content and Jesmonite mixed with pigment at the start of the process, to ensure colour consistency. Some of the candlesticks are subtly finished with hand painted gold patina to reflect the shimmer of the candle. The exterior is finished in vibrant green tortoiseshell and mounted with silver stringing, a vacant silver initial plaque and matching silver escutcheon. The interior is faced in boxwood and fitted with two tortoiseshell lids, each mounted with turned bone handles. When removed, the lids reveal twin tea storage compartments retaining visible traces of their original lining. The tea caddy remains complete with a working lock and tasselled key and is a rare example of late eighteenth century tortoiseshell tea caddies.
