Gae Aulenti Stringa Chair, 1962
About the Item
Stringa chairs designed by renowned Italian designer and architect Gae Aulenti, for Poltronova, 1962. Rarely seen for sale in the UK these two beautiful (and comfortable) pieces are icons of ‘60s Italian postmodernism; true collector pieces from Italy’s most influential female designers. Not to be missed. I have two available - they can be bought individually, or as a set.
A tubular chrome frame holds burgundy leather seats on top of felt upholstered cushions. The leather cushions are attached with leather straps over the frame. All upholstery is original.
Condition is great for it’s age (63 years old!) The chrome is near-perfect, with slight patina in some lesser-seen spots, which is to be expected. The leather seat pads have some obvious scratches and leather marks - again, expected. Both come with love - and a knowledge that these chairs have seen a life, not IKEA. Collector’s charm.
