A delightful settee crafted by hand during the last quarter of the 19th Century, the upholstery is a hand stitched Aubusson covering that remains in a wonderful condition overall. Countless hours went into hand stitching the floral scene that decorates the seat and back so exquisitely, a fact that has not gone unnoticed by it's prior owners who took excellent care of the settee. The craftsmanship of the frame matches the work completed in the covering as no forward facing surface is left unembellished. The intricate and deeply carved surfaces show an expert hand, the frame in most areas not simply carved along the front but continuing onto the sides, draping around and below the arms to stretch three-dimensionally around most prominent surfaces. A pierced wreath crests the top with an outflowing of florals on either side of it. Acanthus leafage curls around the handholds and crawls up the arm supports over the turned and tapered stop-fluted front legs with floral carved rings...
