About the Item

A Swedish sofa, circa 1880, of usefully compact scale, from the late 19th century flowering of Swedish furniture making. Swedish sofas of this period combine a shapely exposed frame with an upholstered back and seat, offering the decorative presence of antique seating in dimensions that suit modern rooms, ideal at the end of a bed, in a bay window, or in an entrance hall where a full-size sofa would overwhelm. The frame displays the restrained elegance characteristic of Swedish work, and takes fabric beautifully for reupholstery in a client's textile, from traditional checks to plain modern linen. A versatile, charming piece of seating with wear consistent with age and use throughout.
