About the Item
Early 18th century oak joint stool from England with a beveled edge around the top. The top is pegged and secured with hand made rose head nails to the base. The base has a hand carved apron in a nulled pattern, over hand turned and fluted legs, which are slightly splayed. The legs are joined by simple stretchers, which are also carved decorated. This is a wonderful example of quality custom craftsmanship from the 18th century. Every element has a design to elevate it to perfection.

Sometimes referred to as coffin stools (although this was much more of a 19th century trend for their usage as opposed to their original purpose in earlier times) the humble antique joint stool was by far the most common form of seating in 16th and 17th century England.
