About the Item

This is a massive and beautifully proportioned American half-glazed corner cupboard, built in two pieces in cherry wood. It is plain and simple in style, with a boldly swept crown and two glazed wide-swinging doors to the upper section and two raised paneled doors to the lower and stands on a nicely-formed bracket foot. The three full-depth shelves in the top each have two channels for plate display against the wide tongue, groove and bead backboards and a single shelf divides the bottom for convenient storage. This piece has a wonderful patina of original worn red paint, paste-waxed to a lovely warm glow. The right hand door still bears its original glass, although the putty has been replaced with wooden quarter round. The left hand door is a very well executed replacement. We believe the decorative tiger striped brass hinge plates were added around 1900, about the same time that the present three working locks were installed. Allow 36” each side of the corner to accommodate the crown.
