It was at this time that the Netherlands saw economic prosperity and artistic achievements many of which are now on display in the art galleries all over the world. Most of the Dutch Masters plied their trade during this Golden Age, Johannes Vermeer being possibly the most well known and popular. As prosperity grew, so did the status of many households creating a need for more sophisticated furniture yet functional. The Dutch linen press met this need providing large amounts of storage space to store linens, garments, and other household items.
