Jorge Zalszupin 'Guaruja' Rosewood Vintage Dining Table, 1960s, Brazil
Located in New York, NY
The iconic Guarujá is a table designed by Jorge Zalszupin (1922-2020) in 1959 and produced by his company, L'atelier. A rosewood patchwork top rests over one concrete base finished with leather.
This patchwork solution is present in other pieces designed by Zalszupin. Modern design taught us about using the material rationally, having the design as a tool to avoid waste. Aesthetically, the patchwork explores the different tones of the Brazilian rosewood beautifully, achieving a unique result.
At the time, the Guanabara table was presented as a dynamic piece that could be used in the corporate spaces (as a meeting...

Gracious Antique French Faux Bois/Rustification Garden Table & Chairs
Located in Chicago, IL
Spectacular original antique French faux bois or rustification (both mean faux, false or fake wood) dining table and four barrel shape arm chairs. This dynamite set (use indoors or out) offers a splendid, canted corner pedestal based table that is the right size for leisurely breakfast or a relaxing game of cards. The four matching chairs appear to have been cut from logs not only completing the set but, the overall vision as well. The unusual and unique shape of each chair makes sitting for long periods of time an absolute joy due to the fact they are incredibly comfortable. Short folks, tall people and those in the middle are all pleasantly surprised when dining at this stellar set. Few and far between, this is one of the nicest square faux bois dining sets we have ever had. The round and oval sets are much more common than the squares--this is a rare opportunity---Don't miss out!!
The technique of faux bois was used during the 17th century in Spain, Portugal and Italy. It was in the 19th century that the technique was rediscovered in France. Few French artisans ever mastered the special craft of imitating the appearances of woods natural surfaces however, you can still today find antique bridges...
