Spanish Colonial Dinning Table In Baroque Style

About the Item

Long dining table (242 cm x 94 cm) made of Molave hardwood. Rectangular one-piece board top with "floating" panel frame, which allows the panel frame to work after changes in humidity. The table is raised on a Baroque style trestle base joined by turned Baroque style cross-stretcher. Philippines circa 1900. The Philippines was a Spanish colony from 1565-1898 and therefore the table is in European style. These types of tables were typically done for monasteries and Spanish related families. Molave, being one of the hardest local woods in the Philippines, is used in carpentry, furniture-making, and also as a construction material due to its strength and durability. Molave is an indigenous hardwood species and is now protected by Philippine law.
