A rare and hard to find Herman Miller - Action Office standing desk and drawing table, circa 1960s. Large working surface, which can be tilted into any max 90-degree angle position with two large corrugated knobs to fix the top in its position, aluminum base with footrest, wired for electrical equipment like a lamp etc. The working top has an aluminum edge. The aluminum has some tarnish, there are some scratches to the wooden middle part and on each side of the tabletop are two very tiny holes, probably from some equipment which was fixed there, please refer to the photos. These are all minor flaws that can be redone easily. Given the fact that this a pretty rare table and hard to find Herman Miller table, we would consider the condition between good and very good. Once a graphic artist and sculptor, Robert Propst became president of Herman Miller Research Corporation in 1960. His goal was to investigate how the world of work operated, and he concluded, sadly, that “today’s office is a wasteland. It saps vitality, blocks talent, frustrates accomplishment. It is the daily scene of unfulfilled intentions and failed effort.” In his landmark book The Office: A Facility Based on Change, he wrote, “We find ourselves now with office forms created for a way of life substantially dead and gone.” Propst’s answer to this unhappy situation was the Action Office system, introduced by Herman Miller in 1968. It was the world’s first open-plan office system—a bold departure from the fixed assumptions of what office furniture should be. With Action Office, Propst created a workspace solution that fit the way people really worked. Nice medium and rare sized Industrial 'Reform' table designed by Friso Kramer for Ahrend de Cirkel, Holland 1955. This dining table was a part of the Reform table program that was designed by Friso Kramer in 1955. The Reform series contained a lot of variety of tables in different sizes and editions to the client’s needs. One thing was always the same, the structure of the base, applied in several different sized and shaped tables. This base was a folded metal frame which was light but also very strong. The tops varied from hardcore, linoleum, Formica and wood. Whatever the client wanted. This has a rectangular shaped top, finished with dark grey linoleum and an aluminum edge. Fabulous industrial Mid-Century Modern distressed stand-up desk or worktable by American Optical Consul Furniture Line. Comprised of a brushed stainless frame and legs, particle board, white laminate tabletop, aluminum edging, peg board, lights, and five drawers with steel hardware. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. We have left the all-over chipped & worn patina purposely because we love it. It also has a sway in the center of the tabletop, but we feel it adds to its charm. The plug-in strip and light have been replaced with updated models due to safety reasons. Well, this is a FLAWSOME stand-up desk or worktable by American Optical their Consul Furniture line. It is comprised of a white laminate top with an aluminum edge, a mint green painted particle board hood with a pale-yellow peg board back and an aluminum light shade, a floating mint green particle board box holding five black wood drawers with hardboard bottoms and steel hardware, AND it all stands on beautiful, brushed stainless legs and base. WOW! We are in love with its chippy, all-over worn patina…and there is a sway in the tabletop which we decided was part of its charm… (a.k.a. FLAWSOME!!) you won’t find another one that matches its character!! It’s a great place to stand up or use a barstool and work on your hobbies or maybe use as a gift-wrapping station. It has a wonderful lighted hood with an aluminum light shade and a tap light, you just tap the inside of the hood, and the light comes on! Super Cool! It has a light switch too and due to safety reasons, we changed the lights and plug-in strip to current lighting and a new nine plug strip. It’s really nice! It has a pale-yellow peg board under the hood which is a convenient place to add hooks for tools or craft supplies. There are five drawers with hardboard bottoms and steel hardware in a floating particle board box, it looks cool and it’s a great area to put small tools or office supplies. The introduction of the Consul line was made at the New England Council of Optometry Congress in March of 1958, but it was a little-known operation within American Optical Company...
