An antique, circa 1780, country English chestnut long table with rich beautifully aged patina.
Born in England in the 18th century, Welsh dresser base form, featuring a thick plank top with desirable overhang, a later raised gallery having three small drawers and full length upper display shelf, over a sturdy hardwood base fitted with three deep and spacious drawers providing plenty of storage.
High quality dovetail joined solid pine extra large center drawer flanked by two large drawers, each drawer front having beveled edge carvings and affixed with brass hardware pulls and keyhole escutcheon. Nicely detailed throughout, including visible fine quality peg joinery, recessed paneled sides, rising on four substantial squared straight legs with chamfer carved edge detail.
These tables were widely used as a type of sideboard in dining rooms where food was served, using the drawers for cutlery and table linen. Today this classic design could be used a variety of different ways, including as a farmhouse buffet server, harvest work bench, country kitchen cabinet...
