About the Item

A rare and elegant pair of French marquetry writing tables dating to circa 1860, each crafted with its own distinct reverse marquetry design, making the pair both complementary and uniquely individual. The beautifully inlaid tops showcase exceptional craftsmanship with intricate geometric and floral motifs executed in contrasting exotic wood veneers. Each table features a single pull out drawer concealed beneath the apron and a pull out leather writing surface, transforming these refined occasional tables into functional writing desks. Gracefully shaped cabriole legs terminate in finely cast sabots, while the serpentine tops and shaped aprons exemplify the sophistication of mid 19th century French furniture. Finding a true pair of tables from this period with intentionally different marquetry patterns is exceptionally uncommon, offering visual interest while maintaining perfect harmony as a set. Ideal as bedside tables, salon tables, or elegant side tables in a formal living room, library or study.
