About the Item

Contemporary New York artists Chris Klapper and Patrick Gallagher's "Fibonacci Sequence F24" is made up of five individually hand-cast concrete numbers mounted on a raw steel shelf. The Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers where each number is the sum of the previous two numbers when moving forward and relates to the 'Golden Ratio' when reversed. This ratio, inherent in our physical universe, is somehow tied to our concepts of balance and symmetry. Ever since its discovery, artists, engineers, and architects have drawn inspiration from its pervasive presence, using it as a fundamental element in aesthetics. This wall sculpture will ship directly from one of the artists' studios in upstate New York. This collection aims to harness this profound connection and convey our relationship with the universe in the simplest and most elegant manner possible. By utilizing basic materials like cement and raw steel, the artwork directly embodies this ratio within the pure and fundamental language of mathematics. It employs the symbols of this language to represent a universal constant, giving it physical form and permanence, thereby transforming the intangible and abstract into something permanent and tangible. About the artists: Chris Klapper and Patrick Gallagher, a creative team based in Brooklyn, NY, embarked on their first direct collaboration with their hugely successful installation, Symphony in D Minor, a self contained thunderstorm, which is now part of the permanent collection of Hydropolis Museum. Their work is multimedia, multidisciplinary and multidimensional, their subject matter is driven by specific projects, environments and experiences. Overall, they look to explore new technologies and to use them to express immense ideas on a human scale; employing sound, sculpture, video, projection mapping, composites, digital new media and performance. Their collaborative efforts have merged their individual strengths, expertise, and visions, propelling each project into more ambitious and uncharted territories. Their ongoing joint series concentrates on the conceptual theme of the beauty of information, the complexities of higher-dimensional mathematics, the intricacies of particle physics and the poetry of numbers. Chris and Patrick's artistic creations have found exhibition spaces in major cities such as NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, Oklahoma and locations spanning to Spain, Italy and Poland. Their works have garnered global attention, catching the eye of renowned publications including; Fast Company, The Atlantic, Designboom, Creators Project, TSpain: The New York Times Style Magazine and Wallpaper, among others. Their dedication to their craft has been supported through grants from institutions such as The Brooklyn Arts Council, Black Rock Arts Foundation, TC Grant. Moreover, they've been honored as artists in residence at prominent institutions like Fermilab, America's particle physics and accelerator laboratory, as well as 2424 Studios and La Fragua in Spain. The collection of artwork by Chris Klapper and Patrick Gallagher is part of an ongoing collaboration with gallerist Ellen Hackl Fagan, showcasing multidisciplinary artists.
